Hash generator
SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512 of text or files.
Files never leave your device
How to use Hash generator
Calculate a checksum to confirm a downloaded file wasn't changed or corrupted, or hash text for development work. All four SHA hashes appear together, and you can paste an expected hash to check for a match. MD5 isn't offered, because browsers don't support it and it's no longer safe for integrity checks.
- 1
Choose Text or File as the input.
- 2
Type the text or choose the file.
- 3
Copy the SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 value you need.
- 4
To verify, paste the expected hash under Compare with a known hash.
Hash generator: common questions
How do I check a file's SHA-256 checksum?
Choose the file, then paste the checksum from the download page into the compare box. It tells you whether it matches and which algorithm it is.
Why is there no MD5?
Browsers' built-in crypto doesn't include MD5, and MD5 is broken for security use. Use SHA-256 wherever you can.
Are large files uploaded to be hashed?
No. The file is read and hashed on your device, so even private files stay with you.
