Base64 encode/decode

Encode or decode text, Unicode safe.

Files never leave your device

How to use Base64 encode/decode

Encode and decode Base64 for APIs, config files, email headers and data URIs. Text is handled as UTF-8, so Bangla and emoji round-trip correctly instead of turning into question marks. You can also turn any file into Base64, or decode a Base64 string back into a downloadable file.

  1. 1

Choose Text or File as the input type.

  2. 2

    Pick Encode or Decode.

  3. 3

Type, paste or choose a file; tick URL-safe alphabet or Output as data URI if you need them.

  4. 4

Copy the output or download it.

Base64 encode/decode: common questions

Why does decoded Bangla text show as garbage on other sites?

Many tools decode bytes as Latin-1 instead of UTF-8. This tool encodes and decodes text as UTF-8, so Bangla comes back exactly as it was.

What is URL-safe Base64?

It uses - and _ instead of + and / and drops the = padding, so the result can go into a URL or file name. The decoder accepts both styles.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 only changes how data is written, and anyone can decode it. Don't use it to hide passwords or secrets.
